Sea dragons, like this leafy sea dragon, are small, odd-shaped fish related to sea horses and pipe fishes.  Their zig-zaggy body seems dressed in seaweed, which makes them almost invisible among the plants on the ocean floor.  This fantastic camouflage is their defense against predators.   Tiny fins on the head and back provide propulsion, while the tail is a rudder for steering. Although they normally move gently in the water like floating seaweed, they can speed away by flapping their fins madly and undulating their body the same way an Olympic swimmer does with the butterfly stroke.
